Understanding Your Due Date
An Estimated Due Date (EDD) is exactly thatβan estimate. Only about 4% of babies are actually born on their due date. However, calculating it helps your healthcare provider monitor your baby's development.
How It's Calculated:
Most calculators, including this one, use Naegele's Rule. This assumes a standard gestation period of 280 days (40 weeks) from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP).
- LMP Method: Adds 280 days to the first day of your last period. This is the standard used by doctors.
- Conception Method: Adds 266 days to the date of conception. This is used if you know exactly when you conceived.
